Families seem to have more laundry to do during the summer because everyone is more active and that results in more dirty clothes. For your family, this means that your washing machine will likely run more than usual. If it happens to break down on you, it could result in you having to spend a significant amount of money on repairs, or it can mean you will have to use your vacation money to buy a new appliance.

This is why it is so important for people to know how to identify problems ahead of time so they will know what steps to take to prevent any additional problems. Thankfully, there are some things that can easily be repaired, either by a professional appliance repair service technician or on your own. We have provided a list of laundry tips that can be useful for maintaining your washing machine.

Make Sure Your Washer Is Balanced

It Is important that you are using a washing machine that is placed on leveled ground. If your washing machine is unbalanced, you will start to hear the sounds that will annoy you until you finally realize that you are hearing those sounds because your washing machine is unbalanced.

It is definitely important that you do not ignore the sounds. If you think you can just deal with the noise, you will soon find yourself looking for a new washing machine because the motor has gone out due to a significant amount of stress. If you are able to move the washing machine, you should make sure you tilt the machine until it is on stable ground.

Do Not Overload Your Washing Machine

It can be tempting to throw as many clothes into the washing machine as possible. However, we were are probably told not to overload the washing machine once we started doing our own laundry. Your washing machine needs enough room for all the clothes to move.

When your clothes can move around in the washing machine, they will have a greater chance of getting cleaned. When your washing machine is overloaded, the motor will have more stress put on it and this will often result in your washer’s lifespan coming to an end quicker than you had hoped.  Although it will take some time to clean all of your clothes, at least you will know your clothes will be cleaned.

Laundry Detergent

It can certainly be tempting to just pour as much laundry detergent or fabric softener into the washer that you think you need, but this is not a wise decision. One of the best things you can do is to add a little water in the fabric softener. When you use too much laundry detergent or fabric softener, you will notice stains on the inside of your washing machine. You do not have to pour a large amount of laundry detergent or fabric softener into your washing machine for your clothes to come out smelling like fresh flowers or a Hawaiian breeze.

Additional Laundry Tips You Should Keep In Mind

  • Know what washing machine settings work for your clothes, towels, etc.
  • Make sure you read the tags of your clothes and towels so you will know the best settings to use
  • Use cold water
  • If it is recommended to turn your shirts or pants inside out, you should do so before putting them in the washing machine
  • If it is recommended to hang dry your clothes, you should do it that way
  • Do not wash all of your clothes together, regardless of how in a hurry you may be
