What would you consider to be the hardest working appliance in your house? We think it would be the refrigerator. When you purchase food and drinks, you place them in the refrigerator. Your refrigerator probably sees more action than any other appliance in the house.

If your refrigerator is equipped with an ice maker, you probably hear that ice maker going on a daily basis, that is until it stops working. If your ice maker stops making ice one day, do not give up on fixing it.

There are some common ice maker problems that we want to address so you can attempt to troubleshoot or repair the refrigerator on your own before you call an appliance repair technician.

There are many parts of a refrigerator that have to work together to ensure your refrigerator dispenses ice and water. You have to make sure your home’s water is actually turned on to your refrigerator’s ice maker. You should also make sure there are no problems with your home’s water line.

When you take a look at your ice maker, you should make sure there is nothing blocking the feeler arm, especially something like an ice cube. If the feeler arm of your ice maker is up, your ice maker is not on.

The ice maker’s arm need to be facing downward to make ice. If you have too much ice in your ice maker’s bin, this could cause the arm to go up. This usually happens to ensure no more ice is made.

Your Water Filter

In order to determine if your water is flowing through your filter, you may have to pull your water filter out to see if water is going into the refrigerator or the freezer. Before you do this, you should make sure you have something to catch the water so your kitchen floor will not be covered with water.

Why Aren’t You Getting Any Ice?

Is your ice maker on? As mentioned earlier, there are ways to ensure your ice maker is turned on. If your ice maker is turned off, you will not get any ice. If your ice maker is in the correct position and it is still not making any ice, you should make sure your refrigerator is set to the right temperature. If your ice maker is not between zero to eight degrees Fahrenheit, this could be one of the reasons why you are not able to get any ice.

Your Ice Does Not Taste Right

If you have noticed that your ice has an awful taste, you may need to change your refrigerator’s water filter. If you do not remember the last time you changed the filter, it could definitely be past the recommended time to change the water filter.

If you have noticed that the ice in your bin looks old and tastes old, you should get rid of that old ice and allow your refrigerator enough time to make a fresh batch of ice. Your refrigerator’s ice may also have a bad odor because it absorbed the smells and odors that are in your refrigerator. If you want to make sure your ice does not smell and taste like your refrigerator, you can use deodorizers.

Your New Ice Maker

If you are not getting any ice from your new ice maker, you will need to give the ice maker enough time to make ice properly. Your ice maker will need to have enough time to cool down properly.
