Unemployed or Under-employed? Consider Starting an Appliance Service Business

Everywhere you look, you can see the effects of a very sluggish economy. And while politicians and policy experts bloviate about it, there are still a lot of people out there who are unemployed, under-employed, or have  quit even looking for work.

One solution for anyone who is in this predicament would be to start their own business, and a lot of people are considering doing just that. Of course, the natural question that arises is; “What kind of business should I start?”

Well, a great answer to that is an appliance repair business.

There are a number of reasons why appliance repair is a viable option:

Training Is Available

Appliance repair does require some expertise. Being mechanically inclined and having a few tools isn’t enough. But you don’t need to spend months in a trade school to become qualified and certified in appliance repair. You can get the training you need in less than a month.

Of course, if operating your own business isn’t for you, you can become an appliance repair technician for someone else. Getting trained and becoming certified as an appliance repair technician will greatly improve your chances of being hired.

Demand

The best businesses are those that have a consistently high demand regardless of economic conditions. Appliance repair is such a business. Let’s face it, virtually everyone has one or more major appliances in their homes. And this is true whether they rent or own. The only difference between repairing appliances in rental units vs. single-family homes is who pays the bill. Either way, if an appliance breaks down, it needs to be repaired. And when the economy is slow, it can actually be better for appliance repair businesses because consumers are more likely to repair what they already have rather than go to the expense of buying new.
