Oven Repair

How to Replace Your GE Range’s Inner Door Glass

If the glass panel in your oven door cracks, it’s important to replace it as quickly as possible. Order replacement part #WB56X22160 and follow these steps to replace the inner door glass assembly on a GE range:

  1. Unplug your oven. Even if a repair doesn’t directly involve electrical parts, removing the power source makes the repair safer for you and the machine.
  2. Take off the oven door. Open the door so you can access the hinge locks. Use a screwdriver to open the hinge locks, partially close the door and lift it free of the hinges.
  3. Remove the interior door cover. After laying the door exterior side down, unscrew the interior panel’s four screws along the corners. Also remove the screws holding the bottom trim in replace, then remove the inner door completely.
  4. Remove the hinges. This will give you better access to the panel holding the glass in place.
  5. Remove the panel over the insulation. Carefully flip the door over and unscrew the panel around the glass. Lift the panel free.
  6. Replace the glass. Carefully lift the glass free of the insulation inside the door and set it aside. Then clean the seat free of grease or debris. Then slip the new glass onto the door’s seat and make sure the insulation isn’t caught along the edge.
  7. Rebuild the door. First, replace and secure the metal panel, then flip the door over and resecure the hinges. After that, put the inner door back into position and retighten the corner screws and bottom trim.
  8. Put the door back on the oven. Snap the hinges into place, then carefully hold the door fully open so you can snap the hinges closed. Make sure the door closes securely before releasing it.
