Appliance Repair 101: 3 Common Refrigerator Malfunctions

From time to time your refrigerator may run into a few hiccups that can leave you scratching your head in confusion. However, some fridge malfunctions are easy to diagnose. Before you make a call to your local refrigerator appliance repair company, take a look at the 3 common issues provided below.

Puddles

Finding a puddle of water inside or underneath your refrigerator is not an uncommon occurrence. When your appliance has an ice maker and the puddle is beneath your fridge, you may be looking at an issue with the ice maker’s line. To stop the leak, locate the shut-off regulator which you will most likely find in your basement or near your kitchen sink. If the puddle is in your refrigerator, you may be looking at a clog in your drain tube. Calling a professional to fix either issue is best.

Constantly Running

If you’ve noticed your refrigerator is running nonstop, there are two possible reasons behind this problem. Number one is a faulty door gasket. If the gasket is not sealing properly due to dirt or simply because it has worn out, your appliance will have a much tougher time staying cool, which could be the reason behind the constant running. Number two is ice buildup in the freezer. When your freezer has a thick layer of ice covering its interior, the appliance’s ability to remain cool suffers. Defrosting the freezer should eliminate the issue.

Odd Noise

While there can be a few different reasons why your refrigerator is making odd noises, one likely culprit is the condenser fan motor and blades. First, unplug the appliance and check the motor and blades for dust and dirt. If they look like they need a cleaning use a rag to wipe them down. Next, examine the blade to ensure it is securely attached and isn’t hitting other parts of the fridge when it turns. Lastly, plug the refrigerator back in to see if the noise continues. If it does, you will need to call a repair company to inspect and fix the motor.
