Avoid Refrigerator Appliance Repair Costs with Regular Maintenance

We know it sounds strange for a company whose livelihood revolves around charging for appliance repair to tell you how to avoid repair costs. The fact is, our goal is to help you get the most life out of your appliances. Sooner or later everyone needs the help of an expert, so we’re not worried about decreased demand for our services. Consider the following checklist for maintaining your refrigerator to avoid premature refrigerator appliance repair.

  • Regularly vacuum the fan and condenser coils every three months, more often if you have pets that shed. The coils are located at the bottom of the front of your refrigerator, as well as on the back.
  • Ensure you are getting a snug seal by cleaning and inspecting the door gasket every three months. Clean with warm, soapy water and replace when it becomes damaged.
  • Unless you have a zero clearance or front-vented unit, be sure there is an appropriate amount of clearance on all sides of your unit. This will ensure proper ventilation and function.
  • If your unit has a water filter, be sure to replace it when the refrigerator’s indicator light is displayed. If your unit does not have a light, every six months is a good rule of thumb. Regular replacement not only ensures you are getting clean ice and water, but it prevents clogs and leaks.
  • Regularly check to see if your unit is level. This can prevent future icemaker problems.

The bottom line is the life of any appliance can be maximized with proper maintenance. At some point, your unit will require professional care. When it does, contact us for an honest appraisal.
