Common Clothes Dryer Issues

With routine maintenance and repair, problems with your clothes dryer can be avoided. However, there are common problems that people experience with their dryers. Don’t fret; the professionals at Fred’s appliance are there for all of your appliance repair needs.

The first step to troubleshooting a broken dryer is to make sure that it is plugged in. Gas dryers only require a 120-volt outlet but still need to be plugged in to work. Electric dryers usually require a 240-volt outlet to work correctly. Always check the entire cord to make sure there is not any damage. If you do see the cord is damaged, do not plug it into the wall.

The most common problem that people experience is that their clothes do not dry completely during a dry cycle. This could be caused by a few different things.

Make sure that your clothes loads are not too large. If there are too many clothes in the dryer, the clothes will not have enough room to rotate in the drum and will take much longer to dry.

The vents on the dryer may be the problem causing longer dry times. Dryers need proper venting in order to function adequately. Check all of the vents and make sure there is nothing covering the vent outlet.

Check the lint filters after every dry cycle and make sure the filters are clean. A dirty lint filter will not allow proper air flow to the dryer and will increase dry times.

If you find your appliance is still on the fritz after trying to troubleshoot for yourself, contact us today for an appointment.
