Common Washer Problems That Can Lead To A Washer Repair

The designs of washing machines vary significantly, but there are some similarities. One of the things that every washing machine has in common is that they all have an electric motor. The electric motor is what drives your washing machine.

Your washing machine will also have a mechanism that allows the washer’s tub to be filled with water and allow the water to drain after the cycle has finished. Your washer also needs to be able to control the amount of water that is in your washing machine’s tub.

If you have not noticed, all washers must have a part that stops the spinning basket after your cycle has completed. Washers can also have a lid that locks so no one will open the lid after a certain part of the cycle.

Not only do washers have common mechanisms, but they also have common problems. We want you to be aware of common washing machine problems so you will know when it is time to seek the services of a washer repair technician.

Your Washing Machine Will Not Turn On

Do you know if your washing machine is getting any power through it? If you are comfortable with using your circuit breaker, you should check the circuit breaker if your washing machine is not powering on. If your washer is getting power, you can move forward with the troubleshooting process.

If you want to make sure the outlet is working, you should plug one of your smaller appliances or devices into the outlet.  If you are concerned at any point about your own safetly, STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING and call a licensed electrician.

My Washer Is Not Spinning

This may seem obvious, but is the lid on your washer closed? If your washer is not completely closed and if the switch has not been connected, your washer is not going to spin.

My Washer Is Not Draining Any Water

One of the first things you should do if your washer is not draining is to check your drain hose for any problems.

My Washing Machine Is Leaking

If your washing machine is leaking during one of the spin cycles, it may be because your drain hose is leaking. If you have a front-load washer and it is leaking around the seal of the door, it can happen because there has been a significant amount of laundry detergent and dirt that has built up. If too much dirt has built up on your front-load washer, it will no longer seal properly. In order to fix this issue, you can use a warm towel to clean the door seal.

My Washer Will Not Complete A Cycle

If your washer can no longer finish a cycle, it may mean that you are having a problem with your washer’s timer. Your washer’s timer may need to be repaired. If your washer’s timer has gone bad, you will be able to tell by removing your washer’s control panel and checking for destruction.   A cycle not completing can be a number of different issues, this usually requires a professional repairman to diagnose.

Washers come in all shapes and sizes, but they can all have the same issues. You should be aware of the common washer problems so you will know when it is time to call an appliance repair service.
