Microwave Appliance Repair and Troubleshooting Guide

Even though they’re usually inexpensive as a single unit, microwaves are repairable and worth the trouble, because when a microwave needs repair, you and your kitchen realize it.

Microwaves are a workhorse in the home, and when they sit in disrepair, their absence is sorely missed.

But how do you know when it’s time to repair or replace a microwave? Here are five troubleshooting tips to help you decide if you need an appliance repair service.

Microwave Not Working

First, check the fuse. Most microwaves need a fuse to function. If the fuse is burnt out, it has to be replaced before the unit will work again.  Use our circuit breaker instead of wasting fuses!

Second, take a look at the door switch. If it is faulty, your microwave will not power on. If it is defective, either replace it or contact a professional.

Third, if you can not discern a problem, there’s a chance your unit needs appliance repair. The only way to tell is to have a professional appliance repair company take a closer look.

Turntable Not Working

If your microwave has a turntable guide, check it for problems. A malfunctioning turntable guide inhibits your turntables function.

If possible, inspect your drive bushing for problems. After frequent use, drive bushings will wear or split, rendering them useless.

Last, your microwave turntable may be having trouble with its tray motor. When a cooking tray isn’t spinning, the tray motor might have burnt out.

Not Heating

When a microwave no longer heats, you likely have big problems, and simple fixes may not work. Difficulties with power diodes, magnetrons, and high voltage capacitors require a professional set of eyes. Microwave owners should avoid repairing problems associated with these types of problems.
