It’s picnic season. You’re hosting the annual family reunion and you know Aunt Sue likes to drop off her egg salad the day before, just to make sure there’s room in your refrigerator.
You also know she’ll check that fridge, and your extra one in the basement, to make sure they’re cold enough. She doesn’t want the picnic salads to spoil, like they did the year “the other side of the family” was in charge. No one checked the temperature of the refrigerator and she’ll never let us forget it.
As much as you don’t want to admit it, Aunt Sue is right. With warmer weather approaching and summer foods like salads with mayonnaise, hot dogs and hamburgers filling your refrigerator, you need to pay attention to its temperature.
According to the Center for Disease Control, your refrigerator should be below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. And during warmer months, food shouldn’t be left out for more than an hour.
But how do you know the temperature is below 40 degrees?
By using a refrigerator thermometer, averaging less than ten dollars, you can check the temperature. You’ll make sure your food is safe and won’t have any doubts when stories about that other family picnic start surfacing. Careful though! Your refrigerator temperature may get as high as 50+ degrees while it is in the defrost cycle. This is perfectly normal.
What if the temperature is higher than 40 degrees?
That’s where Fred’s Appliance comes in.
