Refrigerator Appliance Repair / Maintenance 101

Your refrigerator is one of the only appliances you have in your home that runs continuously, and when its on the fritz you risk spoiling all your food and losing money. Nowadays, most of us can’t afford to let that happen so but all you may need is some refrigerator appliance repair. Here are 5 main refrigerator components and signs of when it’s time to call experts like us for a quick check.

Condensing Coil

The Condensing Coil is on the outside of the refrigerator and condenses the hot gas to a liquid. Signs that the condensing coil is malfunctioning is when the unit stops cooling, possibly caused by either high head pressure or maybe even a dirty coil.

Evaporator Coil

The Evaporator coil is inside the unit and converts the liquid back into a gas, removing the heat and humidity from the air. When your evaporator coil is not working properly, the unit will freeze up preventing it from cooling properly.

Capacitor / Relay

The refrigerator’s compressor system starts by a capacitor / relay. The capacitor looks like a large battery is and kept in a panel near the motor or compressor. If your compressor isn’t running, one possible reason is the capacitor or relay could have gone bad.

Door Gaskets

The rubber around the doors are called the door gaskets. These keep the cold air in cooling your perishables. Signs that your gaskets need replacing could be a leaky refrigerator or food that spoils quickly.

Door Hinges

The door hinges play a huge role with the gaskets. A misaligned door hinge will prevent your gaskets from doing their job, which will then cause food to spoil or a leak from the unit.

There are several other parts, these are just a few of the main ones. If properly serviced, repaired or maintained, your refrigerator, like any other appliance may last over 15+ years.
