Why Is My Washer Leaking?

When you see a puddle of water on your floor, you will certainly find yourself frustrated and trying to get to the root of the problem. If you have children or pets, you will immediately wonder if they are the reason why water is spread across your floor. If the water is spilled on your laundry room floor and your children are not usually in the laundry room, you cannot blame it on your children.

If you have no one to blame it on, there is a good chance your washer is leaking. Sometimes a puddle on your floor means you have a small problem. However, some washer leaks mean you have a bigger problem. It does not matter what the cause of the leak is or why the leak is covering your floor, you will need to make sure the leak is investigated and eventually repaired before that small leak starts to flood your laundry room floor.

When people have washer leaks, they immediately want to know where the leak is coming from. Is the leak coming from the back of the washer or the front of the washer? The water in your washer flows at the lowest point.

There are some common reasons why front-loading or top-loading washers have leaks. We want to give you an insight on where your washer leak may be coming from and what you need to do to ensure your leak is repaired as soon as possible.

Front of the Washer

If your leak is occurring at the front of the washer,  it can be due to using too much laundry detergent.  But just because the leak is in the front of the washer doesn’t always mean it is coming from somewhere in the front of the unit.

Back of the Washer

If the leak is coming from the back of the washer, it can also be caused by your drain hose not being secured properly. You should make sure the drain hose is properly secured into the drain pipe.

There are many ways you can prevent your washer from leaking. If you remember these things, you may not have to deal with a leaky washer anymore.

Overloading

When your washing machine starts to jump and move around because someone has overloaded the machine, it puts more pressure on the entire unit. Eventually, something will get loose and your laundry room will turn into a pool. This is definitely not what you want to experience. You may be in a hurry to finish the load of laundry, but you do not want to overload the washing machine. Treat your washing machine with a little kindness and understanding; do not put too much pressure on it.

Your Washer’s Door Seals

If you have a front-loading washing machine, how often do you clean the rubber gaskets? Did you know that mold and mildew can grow in your door seals? The mold and mildew can cause your washing machine to age poorly. You should clean the door seals at least one time each month. When you clean the door seals properly, you will not have to worry about the chances of water leaking out and spilling onto your floor.

If you found a wet floor when you went into your laundry room, do not hesitate to contact us today. We are ready to repair that leaky washer.
