Although uneven baking or an inability to reach a desired temperature can be symptoms of a serious oven malfunction, they can also indicate an easy to fix oven door issue. Before you throw in the towel and buy a new appliance, try troubleshooting your oven door with these 4 common malfunctions.
The Gasket
A dirty or worn out gasket is one of the most common oven door defects. To test whether or not the gasket on your oven needs a good cleaning or it requires replacing, just observe if anything is loose or falling apart in terms of the gasket overall.
Cracked Glass
A cracked glass pane, no matter how small, can lead to your oven losing heat. Choosing to ignore the crack won’t only result in insufficient temperatures, but it can also cause the glass to shatter. If you do find a crack, you can choose to replace it yourself, or you may want to call your local oven appliance repair company.
The Hinges
Over time, the hinges on your oven door can become unaligned or rusty. When this occurs the door won’t form an adequate seal. Do not bother attempting to repair the hinges, it is best to replace them.
The Latch
If the oven door isn’t completely closing, the door latch may be damaged or bent. Replacing the latch is not complicated and shouldn’t take very long. However, if you’re not comfortable with disassembling parts of your stove top, a call to a repair company is the best route for you.
