Appliance Repair: Is Your Trash Compactor on its Last Leg?

All appliances have failure warning signs. Many are subtle, whereas others are loud and brash. The good news, however, is that a warning sign is often just a cry for help. Only sometimes does it mean that your appliance needs to be completely replaced. This rule applies for ranges, refrigerators, and trash compactors alike.

Speaking of trash compactors, do you know when your trash compactor needs professional appliance repair?

In this post, we’ll give you facts on trash compactors and detail the warning signs of their repair.

Compactor Will Not Turn On

Often this problem relates to the start switch. The start switch, which sends a signal to power on the motor, can malfunction. To determine if the switch is the problem, a professional will connect a multimeter. If the switch is faulty, it is easily replaced.

Not turning on can also be traced back to the safety switch and the door switch as well. In both of these instances, a technician will connect a multimeter to determine the source of the problem.

Jamming Problems

While switches can be an obvious issue, a not-so-obvious problem is a faulty drive motor. After a technician tests all of the known switch issues, he will inspect the entire unit for jamming.

Loud Noises

Loud noises have several causes. The trunnion nut, the drive gear, and the gearbox are just a few of the places that disruptive noises can originate. A technician will need to hear the noise in order to make an accurate assumption as to its origination. Again, most of the problems associated with loud and unsettling noises can be replaced.

If you’re having problems with your trash compactor, an appliance repair service can assist you.
