How to Tell if Your Deep Freezer Requires Professional Appliance Repair Service

All too often, appliances go years without proper appliance servicing and maintenance. This is particularly true for appliances that we use for food storage. Deep freezers, upright freezers, and even refrigerators are often asymptomatic until the day that they stop working.

So, to help you know when your deep freezer needs professional maintenance, here are some troubleshooting tips to help you along.

Condenser Coils

The most common problem with freezers is when they lose their ability to cool the condenser. Dust, dirt, debris, and grime that has coated condenser coils prevent them from doing their job. If you suspect that your freezer would benefit from a quick and easy clean up, clean your coils with a brush or vacuum, and repeat the process once every six months.

Thermostatic Switches

Though not as prevalent as condenser problems, thermostatic switches do fail quite often. The only way to test such a problem is to bypass the switch completely or using a volt meter. For those who are handy, this can be done by unplugging the unit, removing the control panel, and jumping the switch with alligator clips. If after you plug the unit back in it begins to cool, your problem is in the switch which can be ordered and replaced.

Other Issues

If you continue to have cooling problems even after you clean the condenser coils and bypass the thermostatic switch, there may be a problem with defrost or sealed system. To know which problem you have, you will certainly need to contact a professional for assistance and diagnosis.
